  • September in the Infant room

Hello!! Welcome to our Junior and Senior Infants blog for September. What a busy September it has been! We welcomed our seven new Junior Infant pupils into our classroom and they have settled in so well. Senior Infants were so good showing Junior Infants where everything is in our classroom and setting excellent examples of good behaviour and team work. We love getting out to the pitch when the grass is dry. We've named all the cows in the field next to the pitch! Check out our pictures to see all our September activities! Aistear Our Aistear theme was Birthdays. We had so much fun. · We made cakes from junk art using paint, pritt stick, glue and Sellotape. We worked together as a team to create the cakes. Our parents were delighted to see such creations coming home!!! · We loved the role play area, again we made cakes in the kitchen and then took turns being the special birthday person! · We also used playdough and created some fantastic birthday themed cakes and cookies! We celebrated one real birthday and a tooth falling out this month! Well done to all. It was an excellent start to the year.

  • Five Ways to Wellbeing

The five actions are: Connect — encouraging children to strengthen and broaden their range of relationships and social networks. It encourages them to spend time with their friends and family and making time to have a chat. Be active — stresses that being active is for people of all ages and does not need to be intense physical activity. Being active can also encourage social interactions. Keep learning — learning is for people of all ages and can involve absolutely anything! Take notice — asks children to take time to stop, become aware of their surroundings and listen to their thoughts and feelings about them. Give — focuses on how any acts of kindness, whether small or large can make people feel happier and more satisfied about life. https://youtu.be/bsc2QkCC3uI

  • What we're up to in the month of May!

May has been a fun and busy month so far with our Soccer sessions on Monday mornings and also Drumming with Eddie on Thursdays. We have really enjoyed using the various drums and are practising lots for our concert next week! First and Second Class have been learning all about Ancient Egypt. We enjoyed practising our own hieroglyphics by writing our names, we learned about and discussed the lifestyles of the different people groups that lived there and created our own Egyptian landscapes too. We really enjoyed learning about King Tutankhamum and created our own sarcophagus out of clay. Some of First and Second Class are getting involved in the polytunnel during break time, helping to water and care for our plants. Our peas are especially doing well!

  • April Activities

On our return to school after the Easter break we had a couple of very welcome visitors! We really enjoyed our session with Patrick Madden and learned so much whilst planting our pea shoots that we sowed in class and look forward to taking care of them and watching them grow. We also really enjoyed and were engaged by a visit by a local storyteller and loved hearing stories from her story box! First and Second Class also enjoyed starting Soccer with Sylvia in April and had five excellent sessions on Monday mornings.

  • Abbeyleix Soccer Blitz (February)

Back in February the boys and girls in fifth and sixth class took part in a local soccer blitz with the pupils of Scoil Mhuire primary school in Abbeyleix. Each team played three matches and every player worked hard and gave their best. It really was great to see so many pupils participate, for some of whom, it was their first time involved in a team sport. All of the pupils did their team and their school proud. Well done boys and girls!

  • Drumming Workshop

The fifth and sixth class pupils have been busy keeping up with the beat recently in their drumming workshops this month. The pupils are learning about the various uses of each of the West African drums, be it for pulse, beat, rhythm or texture. The workshops are engaging and interactive and are being enjoyed by all.
